Three Online Side-Hustles

So many of us need a side-hustle.  Why?  Sure, our full-time job allows us to feed our family, buy those every-day necessities, and pay the rent.  However, there are long-term objectives such as having children, college tuition for our children, buying a house, and yearly vacations.  Where do we get the money for those?

It would be nice to get a promotion or increase our yearly income with a new higher-paying job.
These opportunities for raising our incomes aren’t easy to find.  Perhaps, a side-hustle is what you need.

What is a side-hustle?  Simply put, a side-hustle is a second job.  They will give you a second income, but they need to be more than a second job.  Let’s look at three side-hustles that will give you the extra cash to get rid of some of your debt or save more for your future.

#1: Crafts

I, for one, love to crochet.   In the past, I’ve crocheted ponchos, hats, scarves, and toilet paper covers.  You may prefer knitting, sewing, or making jewelry.  Whatever is your fancy, you can sell it online.

One way to get started is to look online for free or low-cost patterns.  For example, I’ve crocheted ponchos and other items that I’ve gotten instructions for online for free.

According to Entrepreneur, you can sell your product on Etsy.  For a cost of only 20 cents, you can list your product on this site with five photos for as long as four months.  However, Etsy does require a 2.5 percent commission when you sell your product.  Therefore, you should work that into your price for the item.

#2: Be an Online Tutor

To be qualified for this opportunity, you should have a college degree. The subjects you can teach maybe English, social studies, science, or math.

· A site you might try is Tutor.com.  At Tutor.com, you will earn approximately $10 to $14 per hour. The amount you earn will depend upon the subject you tutor and the number of hours.

· Another online site to look into is Smart Thinking.  At the Smart Thinking site, you simply click on “See job opportunities” and you will see a list of jobs you can apply to.

· At VIPKid, you can earn $22 an hour teaching English online.

· If you would like to earn money tutoring math students for subjects such as Calculus, Algebra, Trigonometry, or Geometry, you should try the Skooli site. When you get to the Skooli site, go down to the end of the page and click on “For tutors” under “ONLINE TUTORING”. You will find all the information needed to apply for tutoring at that site.

#3: Write Online

Many sites hire people to write online. Sometimes, you write articles as a ghostwriter such as the Textbroker site. When you write as a ghostwriter, the person buying your article usually publishes it and your name is not used as a byline for the article.

A site you might write for is Demand Media Studios. The assignment rate of pay at this site ranges from $15 to $100. After going to the Demand site, you will see a list of topics to choose under “Freelance Writing Section”. You can choose a topic to write about. However, you must first be approved by the Demand Studios site.

Conclusion

Since a side-hustle is usually done by someone who has a full-time job besides the hustle, online job types are perfect.  That is because you can make your hours based on your availability.

How to Select a Safe Halloween Costume

Halloween will soon be here, but have you shopped for the best Halloween toddler costume ideas?  Your little one may have his or her ideas of how he or she wants to look for that night of all nights.

The trick is to narrow the list of all the possibilities to just one perfect costume.  However, the tough job for you is to make your little one happy with your choice.  You want Halloween to be lots of fun for him or her, but it is even more important that he or she is safe.  For your little one to be safe that night, keep the following tips in mind.

Safety Tips for Choosing Your Toddler’s Halloween Costume

·      Your toddler’s costume should be made with materials that are flame retardant or flame resistants such as rayon or nylon.  These materials may not be fireproof, but they will either resist burning or extinguish quickly.  If you’re not sure it is a material that will resist burning, spray the costume thoroughly with a flame retardant that can be purchased at your local hardware store.

·      Avoid masks.  Masks can be dangerous since they are known to cut off your toddler’s peripheral vision.  The straps holding the mask in place should hold it securely or the eye holes should be big enough to no block your toddler’s vision.  Makeup can be a safer choice, but you must test it on a small spot to make sure your little one isn’t allergic to it.

·      Add reflective tape to your toddler’s costume.  The tape will make it easier for a driver to see your little one when walking around in the dark.  If you don’t find the reflective tape, try using armbands that are glow in the dark.  Necklaces may also do the trick as well.

Men´s Business Casual Attire- Dress Code Explained

What is Business-Casual Dress for Men?

Does business-casual allow jeans?  Oh, no!  It does not.  You may think it does, but you must be confused.  Most men don’t understand what is meant by “business-casual”.

You may want to be as casual as you think is allowable.  However, there really is no leeway.  A certain standard is expected if the dress code is business casual attire for an office or event.  The problem is that “business-casual” has a different definition from office to office.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Business Casual

If a guy is dressing for business, his look should be one appropriate for business purposes.  He should project an image that is professional and at the same time enjoy attire that is more casual.  He should not only appear groomed, but he should also give a neat appearance.

The way to achieve this look is to dress down a business outfit instead of dressing up a casual outfit.  You’re not going to a bar or barbeque.  Think of it this way: Business casual is dressing a suit outfit down.

White collar workers do not usually dress in formal attire.  Actually, less than 9 percent do.

However, there are times when a guy would dress conservatively.  For instance, a job interview or professions such as engineering or finance would require a more formal look including dark suits, button down, starched shirts, traditionalist ties and dark socks and leather shoes.  You should also make sure you are properly groomed, and, by all means, remove earrings and neatly groom facial hair.  Clothes should be wrinkle free and clean.  Always go with the choice of a shirt with a collar.  If you are in doubt about the dress code of a company, go with the look that is more formal.

Are you still confused?  If so, maybe the following guidelines will help.

Business Casual Guidelines

For the best way to judge for yourself, visit the office and take a look around.  How is everyone dressed?  This is especially important if you've never been there before.  If you’re not sure of exactly how they will expect you to dress in this office, it is better to beoverdressed than underdressed.  Being overdressed is a sure way to look professional.

·       First of all, just as with the formal look, clothes must be clean and free of wrinkles.

·       Business casual means no jeans, T—shirts and sneakers.  These are simply too casual for business casual.

·       Every outfit includes a shirt of some kind.  For business casual, long-sleeved dress shirts are the most appropriate.  It’s a good idea to avoid polo shirts since they will certainly be considered too casual.  An Oxford, white, pastel, or subtle patterned like pinstripes or gingham shirts are best.  Leave the top one or two buttons open, but never more than two.  If you’re wearing a tie, you, of course, would button the buttons.  By the way, another good idea is to keep a tie in your desk drawer.   This allows you to button up and put the tie on for an unexpected, last minute meeting. Horrors!  Don’t forget to tuck your shirt in.

The Importance of Infant Immunization

Many experts in the health fields today such as the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends immunizations for infants.  There are two main reasons you should immunize your baby.  By immunizing your baby, you not only protect him or her, you also protect yourself and others around you as well.  The best way to prevent infectious diseases is through the use of vaccines.

There were only vaccines to protect babies from 7 diseases 30 years ago.  Today, there are vaccines to protect them from 14 dangerous diseases.  Medical technology has advanced over recent years to develop vaccines to protect your infant from these 14 diseases.  It’s up to you to make sure your child receives protection against dangerous diseases.

Everyone Benefits from an Immunization Program

· All too often, there are illnesses that threaten a baby with serious complications and sometimes even death.  Vaccinations can prevent a child from getting a disease which has no medical treatments.

· There are people who are susceptible to diseases due to their immune systems being impaired.  Their impaired immune systems may at times prevent them from getting vaccinations. Even if they've been vaccinated, they do not develop immunity.  It is, therefore, essential that most people get vaccinated.  The illnesses will then be made less common.

·The cost of immunizing your baby with vaccines is actually less than treating the child with shots that would protect him or her.

·Epidemics can be prevented by people within a community getting immunized with vaccines.

Vaccinations Don’t Cause Autism

Scientific studies have proved that vaccines are not related to autism.  Even though a child shows signs of autism around the same time a child is vaccinated, the two events are not related.  The vaccines do not cause autism.

The recent studies of a baby’s brain development found that it develops during the second trimester of pregnancy.  This is a long time before the infant gets vaccinated.  Clearly, the vaccinations are not the cause of autism.

Dangerous Diseases are Only a Plane Ride Away!

Chickenpox and pertussis (whooping cough) are still common in the US.  However, this is not true of diphtheria and polio.  Both these diseases are currently prevalent in some parts of the world.

Should you travel with your baby to parts of the world where polio and diphtheria are common, you would put your baby in danger of coming down with one of these diseases.  In addition, other children who haven’t been vaccinated against these diseases may also be put in danger.  If vaccinations didn’t exist, potentially deadly diseases would put children including yours and mine in danger of contacting one of these diseases.

·Pertussis: Infants suffer most from serious side effects of Pertussis.  As recently as 2010, there were 10,000 cases of Pertussis in California.  Of these 10,000 cases, ten infants died from the disease.  In 2013, Pertussis cases again increased.

·Chicken Pox: As many as 12,000 people in the US were hospitalized due to chickenpox and 50 to 100 people died due to the disease each year before the chickenpox vaccine was developed.  Any child who hasn’t been vaccinated to prevent chickenpox runs the risk of being attacked by invasive bacteria such as strep and staph.  The invasive bacteria live on the skin. If the bacteria enters the body, the bacteria could cause serious complications and death in some cases.

· Measles: Measles is a disease that spreads easily.  At times, this disease has been so serious hospitalization was necessary.  Serious cases have led to death in the past.  Protect your child with measles vaccination.
